Lieutenant Colonel Alex Douvas

Lieutenant Colonel Alex Douvas was raised in Orange County, California. He is a 2002 graduate of California State University, Fullerton, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in 2002. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Chapman University School of Law in 2005.

From 2007-2010, Lieutenant Colonel Douvas was assigned to Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) Twentynine Palms, where he served as Legal Assistance Attorney, Defense Counsel, and Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General.

From 2010-2012, Lieutenant Colonel Douvas was assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, where he served as Trial Counsel and Senior Trial Counsel. From 2012-2013, Lieutenant Colonel Douvas deployed with I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM 12.2. From 2013-2014, he was assigned to the Complex Trial Team, Legal Services Support Section-West as the Regional Special Assistant U.S. Attorney (SAUSA)-West, and was embedded within the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of California to prosecute felony offenses occurring on Marine Corps installations in Federal District Court.  

In 2014, Lieutenant Colonel Douvas was selected by the Commandant’s Professional Intermediate-Level Education Board (CPIB) to attend the 63rd Graduate Course at The Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School (TJAGLCS) in Charlottesville, Virginia. In 2015 he graduated with a Master of Laws degree in Criminal Law.

From 2015-2017, Lieutenant Colonel Douvas was assigned as the Senior Defense Counsel for MCAGCC Twentynine Palms. From 2017-2018, Lieutenant Colonel Douvas deployed with the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Central Command in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE 17.2.

From 2018-2021, Lieutenant Colonel Douvas served as Professor and Vice Chair in the Criminal Law Department at TJAGLCS in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Lieutenant Colonel Douvas’ personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (Two Gold Stars in lieu of Third Award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal. He is a member of the State Bar of California, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
