Col Kindlon currently serves as the Reserve Chief Defense Counsel of the Marine Corps. A native of Albany, New York, he is a 1998 graduate of Williams College and a 2002 graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Law. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant after his first year of law school in 2000 and began his active duty tour in 2003.
After completing The Basic School and then Naval Justice School, Colonel Kindlon was stationed at Camp Lejeune North Carolina, serving first as a Legal Assistance Attorney and then as trial counsel. In 2005, Colonel Kindlon deployed to Fallujah with 2d Battalion, 6th Marines in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Returning home in 2006, Colonel Kindlon left active duty and returned to Albany, New York.
Colonel Kindlon joined the Marine Corps Reserves upon the completion of his active duty commitment. As part of the Reserves, he has served as a Law of War instructor, Regional Judge Advocate, Detachment Commander with 2d Civil Affairs Group, Senior Appellate Defense Counsel, Officer in Charge of Officer Misconduct, Deputy Chief of the Preliminary Hearing Detachment, Reserve Deputy SJA to IIMEF and Reserve Chief Defense Counsel.
In his civilian career, Colonel Kindlon founded The Kindlon Law Firm and represented clients in some of Upstate New York’s most high-profile criminal cases. In 2023, Colonel Kindlon graduated magna cum laude with an LLM in financial compliance and risk management. Across eighteen years of hard-fought courtroom battles, he used his experience to benefit clients across the legal spectrum. In 2024, Kindlon was elected District Attorney of Albany County.
